This is how it looks when one galaxy passes another; the beginning of a galaxy merger in space. The smaller galaxy seems to have passed through the larger galaxy above, which shows strong signs of tidal interactions. The official Hubble website called this ensemble "A rose made of galaxies", considerably more poetic than the real name "Arp 273".
